Government Addresses Status of Higher PF Pension Applications
NEW DELHI, July 26, 2025 – The Ministry of Labour and Employment recently addressed concerns regarding the processing of Provident Fund (PF) pension applications based on higher wages, following a question raised in the Lok Sabha. Adv. Adoor Prakash inquired about the status of these applications, including rejections, reasons, and measures to expedite pending cases.
In a written response to Unstarred Question No. 224, answered on July 21, 2025, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, stated that the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has been diligently processing and disposing of applications for pension on higher wages in adherence to the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s judgment dated November 4, 2022.
The Minister informed the Lok Sabha that as of July 16, 2025, over 98.5% of such applications have already been disposed of by the EPFO. While specific details on the number of applications received, granted, rejected, and pending on a State/UT-wise basis, along with reasons for rejections, were referenced to an Annexure, the overall high disposal rate indicates significant progress.
The response suggests that the government, through the EPFO, has been actively working to clear the backlog and process these applications as per the judicial directives, aiming to provide clarity and resolution to a large number of applicants seeking higher PF pensions. The comprehensive status of these applications is expected to be detailed in the aforementioned Annexure.
